Overview
The Helion DVB-LSA cores implement the DVB Local Scrambling Algorithm (LSA) which has been specified
by the DVB Steering Board to provide MPEG-2 Transport Stream security within the DVB Content Protection
and Copy Management (DVB-CPCM) system. DVB-CPCM has since been published as a ten-part formal standard
(TS 102 825) by ETSI.
The DVB Local Scrambling Algorithm provides the mechanism for the scrambling and descrambling of
MPEG-2 Transport Stream packets within compliant CPCM systems. It is based on the AES block cipher
described in FIPS 197 and provides a choice of two cipher block chaining modes, CBC and RCBC.
Helion DVB-LSA Solutions
The Helion DVB-LSA cores are provided as separate Scrambler and Descrambler cores in order to
provide the most efficient solutions whilst providing maximum flexibility to the user. They fully
support CBC and RCBC chaining modes, Ciphertext Stealing (CS), Short Block Handling, and
both MDI and MDD modes for processing "Must Stay Clear" (MSC) data.
Both cores are available in versions for use in Altera FPGA, Xilinx FPGA and ASIC. In common
with all Helion IP cores they have been designed with each technology firmly in mind to yield
the most efficient results. For more detailed information on these cores, please download
the appropriate datasheet below.
