Overview
Recent improvements in digital technology such as high-speed data networking and storage,
and high-quality image compression and projection has enabled the rapid
advancement and deployment of Digital Cinema systems. In July 2005, Digital Cinema Initiatives, LLC (DCI)
released the Digital Cinema System Specification v1.0 to ensure adoption of an industry-wide
standard to ensure interoperability and compatibility between equipment and service vendors.
One of the key aspects of the DCI specification is to provide an open security architecture
employing well established encryption technologies to protect film content and implement
Digital Rights Management (DRM) to prevent unauthorised copying, editing and playback.
The DCI specification recommends a suite of encryption, secure hash, data integrity and
key exchange algorithms for use within the Digital Cinema security architecture. These include
AES-CBC and AES-CTR mode encryption for protection of image, sound and subtitle content;
2048-bit RSA for content key distribution; digital signature generation/validation using
the PKCS-1 Digital Signature Standard with RSA and SHA-256; and HMAC-SHA-1 for content
integrity checking.
Helion D-Cinema Solutions
Helion offer full support for all of the cryptographic algorithms required to implement
the security functions specified by the DCI to provide end-to-end security for Digital Cinema
systems. Moreover, all these cores have previously been FIPS approved
as part of the Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP) required for
FIPS 140-2 certification.
These high performance cores are available in versions for use in ASIC, Altera and Xilinx FPGA,
and in common with all Helion IP cores they have been designed with each technology firmly
in mind to yield the very best and most efficient results.
To find out more about these solutions, please follow the links to the appropriate
cores listed in the table below.
